Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE)
Our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) approach recognises that students may demonstrate strengths across intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains, often in interconnected ways. Some students may learn at an accelerated pace, think critically and deeply, demonstrate originality and creativity, show leadership capabilities, or excel in sporting and performance contexts.
We are committed to identifying and nurturing these strengths through strong partnerships with families and the use of evidence-informed teaching practices. By providing high-quality instruction, targeted support, enrichment opportunities and mentoring, we ensure students are appropriately challenged and encouraged to grow. This approach enables high potential learners to build confidence, extend their capabilities and thrive across their academic, personal and social development.
What are the four domains of potential?
- Creative: Imagination, originality and innovation in areas such as the arts, design, problem solving and digital media.
- Intellectual: Strong thinking, reasoning, memory, problem solving and rapid understanding of new ideas.
- Physical: Natural abilities in movement, coordination, strength, speed and endurance seen in sport, dance and performance.
- Social-emotional: Strengths in leadership, empathy, communication, self-management and working positively with others.

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
In our classrooms, teaching and learning are intentionally designed to meet the needs of every student and to promote high levels of engagement and achievement. Students are provided with differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and opportunities for higher-order thinking, ensuring appropriate challenge and support. Teachers use ongoing formative assessment to monitor student growth and adapt instruction in real time, while explicitly teaching critical thinking and problem-solving strategies to build deeper understanding.
Learning is enriched through flexible grouping that supports collaboration, shared ideas and effective presentation of learning. Across all areas, including PDHPE, students engage in differentiated movement tasks that build skill development and refinement. Our classrooms foster supportive learning environments where students are encouraged to explore, reflect and self-assess their progress. Feedback is strengths-based, with clear goal setting that helps students understand their next steps. Above all, we create safe, inclusive spaces that build confidence, encourage risk-taking in learning, and support perseverance in the face of challenge.
At our school, we provide a rich and varied range of opportunities that support students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Our programs are designed to build confidence, extend learning, and nurture every child’s individual strengths and interests.
Students are encouraged to explore their creativity and curiosity through a range of extra-curricular activities, including lunchtime and interest-based clubs, engaging STEM lessons that promote problem-solving and innovation, and participation in the Premier’s Spelling Bee, where students develop strong literacy skills and a love of language.
We actively support academic challenge through opportunities such as ICAS academic competitions, while also building essential communication skills through public speaking programs that empower students to express their ideas with clarity and confidence.
Peer mentoring strengthens our school community by fostering positive relationships across year groups, while our Student Representative Council (SRC) provides authentic leadership experiences and a strong student voice in school life.
Physical wellbeing and teamwork are developed through PSSA sporting teams, where students represent the school with pride in a range of competitive sports. Creativity is equally celebrated through vibrant visual arts showcases that highlight student talent and imagination.
Underpinning all of these opportunities are comprehensive wellbeing programs that support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, ensuring every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Across NSW schools, students are provided with a wide range of enrichment opportunities that extend and deepen their learning beyond the classroom. The Premier’s Spelling Bee supports the development of vocabulary, spelling accuracy and attention to detail, encouraging students to perform in a supportive yet competitive environment. Participation in PSSA sport enables students to trial and compete against other schools, building teamwork, discipline, resilience and a strong sense of commitment.
Students are also encouraged to engage in academic and creative pursuits such as the Premier’s Multicultural Public Speaking program and the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), which challenge them to apply their learning in authentic and extended contexts. Complementing these opportunities, mentoring programs connect students with trusted adults who provide guidance, encouragement and support, helping to build confidence, motivation and positive interpersonal skills that contribute to their overall development.
